Without deciding on a genre, or what instruments to use, we started to make the music we would like to hear ourselves. Keeping tracks short and interesting, with surprising twists.
We recorded hours of sonic material but sculpted these sessions down to their bare essentials. Cutting out everything that wasn’t really working. We looped and relooped, sampled and resampled.
Eventually we kept ten sessions, which turned into ten songs. When put in the right order, these songs tell a story. The album Membra Disjecta - literally 'scattered fragments' - was born.
Sometimes it’s ambient. Sometimes not. We can play jazzchords, detune our instruments, and loop in 3, 5, 7 or 9. Sometimes the count and counterpoint doesn’t really seem to add up, but we like to keep it imperfect, never really finished.
Klank Klonk, like the sound of a machine that doesn’t run very smoothly, or the sound of something falling down the stairs. But also - and this is maybe the most characterizing part of our music - vivid, delicate, even a bit melancholic, complex, human.
